Myofunctional Therapy in Newtown, Bucks County, PA
What is Myofunctional Therapy?
Many children and adults suffer with issues like ear infections, swollen glands, speech difficulties, digestive problems and seasonal allergies which can make them feel miserable.
The nose filters our air but without the ability to seal the lips and nasally breathe, air does not filter. Instead, a mouth breather shows a greater degree of oral dryness and irritation. This aids in creating plaque buildup, decay, enlarged tonsils and even periodontal disease. This may be a missing link when your homecare is not making a difference with your bleeding gums.
The Four Goals of Myofunctional Therapy
- Nasal Breathing – all day and all night
- Lip Seal – all day and all night
- Correct Tongue Posture – all day and all night
- Correct Swallowing Pattern – all day and all night
Other problems that Myofunctional Therapy can address are:
- Sleep Apnea and Snoring: When mouth and throat muscles are strengthened this can aid in reducing snoring and apnea events.
- Swallowing: Gain coordination and strength with muscles that help you swallow.
- Open bites can be caused by tongue thrusting habits: by retraining improper tongue posture, you can address issues like tongue thrust.
- TMJ/TMD: Alleviates symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders by promoting proper jaw alignment.
Myofunctional Therapy can help both a child and an adult. When these goals are accomplished in a child, proper dental and craniofacial development take place. This can help a child’s growth and development and promote greater health overall.

I am a native of beautiful Bucks County Pennsylvania northeast of Philadelphia. Growing up in the local school district of Central Bucks, I enjoyed sports, dance, and yoga. Bloomsburg University was my first college endeavor where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business focusing in marketing and management. From there I moved to Maryland where I enjoyed a career in sales. Five years later, I returned to Bucks County to work in my family business. While holding down the family fort I earned my degree as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Shortly thereafter, I Achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Public and Allied Health from Bloomsburg University. My mother worked in the dental world my entire life and I have been in the dental field for 30 years. The first 10 years of my career I began by working in pediatrics and have since spent my time in family dentistry. The last nine years I have worked in a practice that is currently focused on airway health. This focus brought me to Myofunctional Therapy, in which I became certified. Much of my experience has been gained while working in the fascinating world of airway and dental health. Recently I began my own endeavor with Myofunctional Makeover.
